    Backend security

Is there anyway of setting up groups and add users that can only access certain components within the backend?

I dont want to give people too much access to be able to mess the entire site up due to people poking there nose into things they should't.

seems to be quite a flaw in the security?

You have to allow people into the backend to add items with certain components, but then they can kill your site by messing around.

    Maybe a feature request/improvement???

    Backend Security Groups

like in the user manager section create groups add people to them.

You can set permissions on the groups to allow them access to certain components.

    Same as phpnuke backend.

    Just a thought...

Ignore my last comment. J1.5 has some extra backend groups.

    -----Public Back-end
    ----------Manager
    ---------------Administrator
    --------------------Super Administrator
A Public Back-end Manager will also have the same access as a Front-end Publisher.

But it is still very basic. you cannot lock it down to different components.

    I did find this

Vietnam Trading Information - Thong tin doanh nghiep - Control Access Levels MVC for joomla 1.5.x

But they want to charge $109 per domain..(jesus)

    No way im paying that.

If you want this kind of function you need to invest in something like jacl but be warned it is a hack but there are planes in the future of joomla for this type of functionality

Be warned though. JACL can trash your system quite easily.

Thank for the heads up. I think I will just have to really limit who has backend access untill 1.6
