the root file is images/stories unless you have changed anything you have saved in the you can access
ok so I have uploaded the mpg file into images/stories folder.
Now when i insert movie file in article i put in the following.
type Windows Media
File/url movie.mpg
dimensions 300 x 300
saved the details and saved the article. The article loads with the media player but the file still wont load.
you need to insure that your server is copable of streaming I will look into this as I have never used this in anger only for testing

The JomlaWorks guys at JoomlaWorks | The Joomla! & Mambo Professionals make some ace plugins... one of them is used to embed videos. You can even embed vids of YouTube, Google Videos, Yahoo Videos, etc. with simple tags.

I've tried out inserting .flv and .wmv files on my local test setup and they both work fine.
These (as well as quicktime) are the most common file formats used for streaming so I'd try converting your .mpg to one of them.
IF you want .flv - i recommend using Riva Video Encoder.

Simon
