is it possible to create extra groups i.e. Staff and Students.

14th April 2008, 09:04 PM #2 My understanding is that you cannot create additional user groups. You could restrict the content so that it is only viewable by registered users and then create accounts for staff?
There are extensions which will allow you to create new user groups. JACLPlus will allow you to do it but it isn't free.

16th April 2008, 09:30 AM #6 Yep, set the access level on the article/section to special. Put the staff that need to see it the author group. They should be able to see the article. Authors can not edit content or publish it though, they can however submit it so you can publish it.
EDIT: Sorry, This is assuming the kids are just registered users. If you want them to be able to submit content there are components for this.

17th April 2008, 10:31 PM #7 just to add to what has been already said I looked into this a while ago there only seems to be a few options that is jacl which like he said you have to pay for the second is to wait for acl in joomla 1.5 to come out which i believe not to be far away. there does not seem to be any other way around it.
