Who loves you, baby?
I do, so here's a present for you. I know AUP Informant is far from perfect, let's have a quick look at the issues:
- Requires messing with a config file
- No MSI for deployment
- No CC3 package
- Not always possible to give staff and students different policies
- Limited choice of when to show policies
Well I've been busy and I should have a beta version of AUP Informant 2 and AUP Informant Policy Server (AIPS) ready for you in the holidays! What's new? Read on...
The app is now split into two parts, the client which displays the policies on the local machine and the server, where you can configure settings. That means no more configuration, just deploy the MSI or CC3 package (I can make both of them now) and off you go!
You can set three types of policy in AUP Informant 2, one for staff, one for students and a generic policy for any other type of user (maybe guest users, temp staff, etc). You can also now choose when the policy is shown and you have a lot more options open to you.
No huge changes to the email notifications here, just an option to have multiple recipients, which never hurts.
Saving the best for last. Yep, that's Active Directory integration right there (or it would be if the screenshot wasn't on my home machine). Assign policies to groups, individual users or entire domains! :D
What else would you like to see? Get your ideas in early and I'll see what I can do!
:hat: <- Bizzel, the mac daddy of coolio software.
I'll point it out at the next local meeting (September)
Looks real good - i'll give it a play once it gets a full release.
@Bizzel - That's some good sh*t there! Can't wait for the release :D
what does this software do, i do not understand

have a lil look round the projects forum.
Looking great - I've shown the current version to a couple of schools we support, and they really like it. Just got to get them to finish their actual policies now :p
I forgot to mention, a new option is to disable the account in active directory if the user declines the policy. You can use that if you're feeling particularly nasty!
A good option but will probably lead to more work for the ICT Support team initially.

Maybe an option would be (for ISA server users at least) to add the users to a security group which is denied access on the firewall if they decline the AUP. And remove them if they agree? That would be helpful to me at least.
Looking forward to testing this.
That would work for us as we map our Smoothwall groups against security groups in AD ... move the group and they get a more restrictive internet account :-D
WOW! you have been putting some work in! Looking great!
Its been interesting to see AUP in action. It been qute funny the students that decline it by default!
As for some requests as its in development:
It would be great to have a custom message box dialogues that can be chosen to display after both 'accept' and 'deny' options.
It would also be great to choose an option on 'deny': Message, log-off, log-off and reshow AUP (so decline logs off again), limit account, nothing etc.
is there an ETA on this?. no hurry :)
