Yes just done my first upgrade today.
Version 4 is now available. It is free until the end of the year then you need a licence. I'm not sure there is much improvement. BEWARE you can no longer export pupils from one eprofile and import them into another. So teachers can no longer update eprofile on their laptops at home and import them to a single eprofile at school. It was never ideal but it was workable. You can now network the "database". I use that in the very loosest sense of the term. The new guide gives some very useful information. I love the "Move forward with greater boldness."
"A note for multiple users sharing a single database
The database is an inanimate object. Each user’s eProfile calls on the database independently. If one user
is in the process of updating information – entering assessments or changing preferences, etc. then that
user has hold of the database and will not let any other user update. When the user has finished the
database is then released. While this is a problem, not having this safeguard would cause the database to
get totally corrupted and be of no use to anyone.
If you want to look at information then there is no problem, but if two users are simultaneously wanting to
enter assessments one user may discover that his or her work did not get saved. The rule here is
1 If you can check, then do check that the database is “free”.
2 Enter a little information, close and check that it has been entered.
3 Move forward with greater boldness.
4 Close the window as soon as you have finished."
For some reason my schools seem not to be using this product this year. I wonder if the mangled instructions were a factor in that decision?
I installed it on to the network and then the teacher changed her mind and asked for it to be installed locally. I un-installed and re-installed but was not asked the second time where I would like the database, it simply used the old settings.
Not sure how I will get it moved. hohum
Backup the "database", delete it, run eprofile and it will let you choose what type on database you want, close eprofile and run "V4 Restore your work".
