I also spoke to my brother in law who works with SQL databases on a daily basis. His are designed to be moved between servers as he often has client databases on his laptop.

I've had a few problems with just the install. Just wondered if the stuff from the heinemann website might help, but going on the level of support they seem to offer generally, it was probably a long shot. If it's any consolation, I have suggested to their support service that their managers should look on edugeek for feedback on how happy the techie community is with Abacus Evolve...:D
Another way to do it would be using Virtual machines.
VMWare have software that will allow you to copy a physical machine into a VM appliance.
.. why do people keep reviving old threads ?
I tried the VM route when a student teacher wanted to use the software on their own Vista laptop - it worked but the concept and slowness of a machine inside a machine defeated them :(
