Just to update anyone who cares, my demo test today worked fine!! :)
The difference? Changing to an IT suite that runs Windows 7.
I know we should be using that across the board anyway but we aren't and also, we have one room laid out specifically to be able to do onscreen exams (there are flip up wooden screens to isolate users into mini cubicles :) )
I think its worth pointing out that throughout the documentation it says that this software is fine on Windows XP. Their technical support told me the same thing. It's all a pack of LIES!!! Windows 7 - no issue at all.
Frustrated and angry..... but also mildly relieved as SLT were starting to breath down my neck
We're the opposite. Couldnt get it to work on 7, whereas XP worked fine
Has anyone else found out just how shocking the test player software is to use?
It crashes so easily!
For example, try pressing crtl + alt + del and the test player dies in the middle of the exam.
We also had problems with students inadvertently pressing the calculator button on the keyboards which immediately stopped the test player running as it wasn't the 'main focus'.
Pearson's advice: un-program the 'special keys' on the keyboard... ummm... what!
lol it's a joke :) Had to run it last week for the exam, and yeah shockingly bad... :( Silly system.
Our last exam attempt was shockingly bad! The kids just think we are morons and the teachers just think there is a magic button we can press to make this ridiculous software work. I can only instruct the Exams Officer to complain to Edexcel.
our first exam is this afternoon at 13:30pm will let you know how it goes.
Just so you know there is a shortcut to unlock the whole "lost focus" thing, we had that during testing so abused Pearson :) If you need to "unlock" it or whatever it's called.
is this what happens if someone tries to get out of the exam software or plugs something in?
It's as soon as the screen isn't "focus" as in the one your mouse/keyboard would type to. So if you hit WinKey, Alttab, ctrl-alt-del etc etc.
ahh I see! so what's the shortcut to sort it?
SHIFT-ALT-F12 brings up password box, after you put in password it gives options to either Terminate Test, or Unblock it. (If you don't know the pass I can do PM's but seems silly posting it here as not behind reddoor etc :( )
well it all appears to have gone through without any problems! yay :)
