What's this new Smart ink business in v11? Seems pretty useless. Why doesn't it work the way v10 did where you can right instantly over anything. Uninstall the smart ink and the pens then don't seem to work at all.
Schools/colleges tend not to have the most high performance machines and this all seems pretty processor hungry even on our "better" machines.

Depends what you consider better machines, but sometimes more RAM could solve the problem. I'm still using Smart Notebook 10.8 for the time being until a later build of Smart Notebook 11.

Not sure why you'd move files out of the downloaded archive really. I've followed the same formula for every release of SMART now. Download the Admin tool, download the main zip containing the notebook files (in the past this was 2 different files), create the custom mst file, put it in the folder with the downloaded files and put that folder on our deployment share.

Then GPO it. Why would you move the MSI out from the rest? MSIs often have lots of support files external to themselves.

And, yes, the requirements are increasing but asking for 1GB of RAM isn't exactly a lot in the day we're in now. Our new machines come with 4GB as standard, our old machines will shortly have 3GB in site wide. Upgrading RAM is cheap.

This deployment is pretty easy to build. It will upgrade over version 10 which is nice. I used their admin tool to create the MST. Downloaded the updates and ran those at the end.

rem Flash 11 Install with update suppressed

    msiexec /i"\\servername\install_flash_player_11_active_x_32 bit.msi" /qn transforms=ActiveX.mst
    msiexec /i"\\servername\install_flash_player_11_plugin_32bi t.msi" /qn transforms=Plugin.mst
    xcopy /y "\\servername\mms.cfg" "C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\"

    rem Dotnet 4
    "\\servername\WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe" /quiet /norestart
    "\\servername\dotNetFx40_Client_x86_x64.exe" /q /norestart
    "\\servername\sleep.exe" 60
    "\\servername\vstor40_x86.exe" /q /noreboot
    "\\servername\sleep.exe" 200

    rem Reboot
    c:\windows\system32\shutdown -r -t 05

rem Visual Studio 2010 tools office
    "\\servername\vstor40_x86.exe" /q /noreboot
    "\\servername\sleep.exe" 200

    rem Smartbook 11
    Msiexec /i"\\servername\SMART Education Software 2012.msi" TRANSFORMS=6-26-2012.mst /quiet /log C:\Smart.log

    rem Install patch
    MSIEXEC /P "\\servername\productdriversv11_0_222_0.msp" REINSTALLMODE=omus /q
    MSIEXEC /P "\\servername\smartink1_0_sp1.msp" REINSTALLMODE=omus /q
    MSIEXEC /P "\\servername\smartnotebook11v11_0_583_0.msp" REINSTALLMODE=omus /q
