Have you made the changes in your MSI to disable auto updates etc?
Ah. Do you not do that in your place?

im more interested in how you created the msi. ive been using winstall le but it seems to be very hit and miss with some programs (though it appears to work with vlc)

For those who have downloaded a copy you can get version 2.0.1 from the same place.
I'd be interested in the MSI, though you can install it silently using the followng command:
Works perfectly with SCCM 2007, will also upgrade any existing version without any trouble..Code:vlc-<version-number>-win32.exe /L=1033 /S

I'm interested as well
Why PM? Share it here.

Indeed. This will also work as a part of a startup script if you don't have an application deployment suite such as CC3/4 or SCCM. With all due respect to FN-GM, an MSI for an installer which can be run silently anyway is unnecessary. The first rule of software repacking is "Don't unless there is absolutely no other option".

MSI GPO deployment can be better as it is all in one place and has an easy uninstall method. Not everyone has SCCM or the inclination to mess with a bunch of differrent deployment methods due to a few stroppy packages that refuse to accept that thier stuff actually runs on Windows and that the usage of their software would be increased by using an easily managed format. Much OSS stuff seems to be at war with it sofware actually being used in larger environments then whine about uptake, Firefox and MSI for instance.
Besides repacking VLC is easy as it can run portable so just run a start cap, drop the portable program files and shortcuts in the right place and associate anything you require. Run your after cap and your done without much cruft at all.
It is not 'always unnecessary', for instance you may want to alter some default settings at install time or get around some rubbish liscence system that can not be handled by the silent install.
