MSI Deployment of Autograph 3.3 issues

Hello, im pretty new here and thought i'd start with a problem thats bugging me!

I've recently began my first role in IT in a small school replacing a recently left ICT Technician. Before he left supposadly this software package (Autograph 3.3) had been completly setup according to the jobs log, however the software has been imaged out and installed locally on all the schools machines and displays as unlicensed.

So the other day I decided to do a proper network install using the software developers supplied .msi, all went well, site license is in a shared area on the server along with the admin install.

This is the first time msi and GPO has been used in this school for software distribution, everything before now has been imaged out over holiday periods. So a new policy object has been created for a computer software install using autograph3.3.msi and applied to our workstation group.

Everything seems in place fine, yet nothing is happening, the software install is set to apply but there doesn't appear to be anything happening on boot for any workstation machines.

Appologise for the long post but this is pretty new to me and im rather puzzled Any help is appreciated.

    On the client computer:

    Code:
    gpupdate /force /boot
and if no install takes place, use the event viewer to check for reported problems.

You could try RSOP to see what policies are being applied.. (gpresult if Vista / win7)

Thanks for that (never knew about RSOP before now) it appears when a local machine is queryed there is no mention of the software under computer configurations. Not quite sure as the GPO is linked to the workstation group and enforced.

However under the "removed" tab on Rsop software installs the software is listed (however I have not removed it!)

Will check it over in the morning, but I gather its ok now thanks for the help.

Well the software seems to of deployed out fine, typically staff moaning "why is it taking so long to boot this morning"..im sure aroud 1-2min extra is hardly an issue

Still some issues with the network license not being picked up, it was activated during the admin install fine also the "network license viewer" tool supplyed by autograph will not run due to a C++ runtime error an issue more related to their software I would expect? Anyway having phoned their technical support line im answered by an answering machine message "sorry but autograph technical support is currently on leave please contact us via email"

    Edit:
Ive managed to get in touch with Chartwell Yorke who wil be investigating the issue.

    Edit No2
Ok we have got to the bottom of the problem, and its occured in a few other schools too.
Autograph 3.3.msi has a bug which when using an already existing license will appear to work fine on the server but any policy deployed workstations will have a local path set to find the license, if you created a new license on the admin install this does not occur (so its often not an issue).

So ive edited the .msi using orca to dropt this bug with thanks from autograph support, the issue still remains of all computer which have had this software deployed to them (around 350) require a the softwares registry path to be changed and I dont plan to manualy do this around the whole school.

Would anyone here be able to assist in a registry edit script I can deploy to all computers?

ok even when the license location is changed in the registry the problem still remains, and performing the msi edit they told me to just deletes the license locaiton from any future installs so you would need to enter it manually on each computer (but that doesn't work either).

Really hate this sofware and its poor design, bad bugs and false information on how to fix them

..I eventually got this going after talking to Stephen at Autograph:

    Stephen's number is 0151 630 4492

below are the entries from the reg file I applied to all my machines after installing the MSI

    -----------------------------
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Eastmond Publishing Ltd.\Autograph\Version 3.20]
    "LicenceLocation"="\\\\10.0.0.1\\lic\\"
    ------------------------------

I know the path says version 3.20 - but this is the entry for 3.3

    Good luck..

Thanks carvjo but i've already changed the reg license location path to the correct one and im still having an unlicense autograph. I cant confirm that the .lic files is licensed as the network license check tool wont run

Ill just redo a fresh install with a NEW .lic and try that

Hope you asked him for consent before posting that... I'd be hopping mad if it was my number. Graduated levels of support are there for a reason.

Its given on the answerphone messege currently in use on their normal tech support phone number while he is away.
Ive created the MSI again using a new license which has been activated and network license viewer actually ran this time so I can see how many license's are left and what they have been distributed too.

I do however have another strange issue (more an MSI then autograph one I think) the path for the .msi is appearing different on my workstation then configured on GPO adding \autograph 3.3\

RSOD ran on my workstation results-
    rsod result.JPG

    GPO on server results-

All setup fine now, new license created, activated, redeployed to the IT office for test purposes.
Autograph loads and states "extended site license" now but then says:

    Licence Type: Extended Licence

Status: Cannot Activate due to insufficient licences
When viewing the network license tool on our server it states "500 active licenses still avaliable for deployment".
