    Solved-Sratch MSI Deployment scratch.ini

    just setup scratch animation/story software via the msi supplied

    one question i need to ask is how do i deploy a modified scratch.ini file along with the msi

    do i need to repackage the msi to include the modified msi if so can anyone tell me how.

    or do i need to copy scratch.ini into the folder where the Msi is installed from.

    any help appretiated.

    You could deploy the msi and then have a startup script that copies a modified ini file. Alternativly, you could create your own msi with a modified ini file already in it (that's what I did). Have a look at Advanced Installer; the free version is great for making basic msi files.

    I also might try appdeploys repackager it seems to be the same as ghost's ai package builder takes snapshot before install then compares the differences and creates a msi for you( well thats what it said it does) im sure this would helpme with this little problem

    could always use Group Policy Preferences to copy the file down to the clients, I usually find this easier

    I included the custom settings file as part of the MSI. I believe that you might be able to use Orca to edit the MSI you have to reflect your setup.

    i used the advanced installer software to create a custom msi

    not a bad piece of software for free.

    For basic editing of .MSI files or creating .MST files I find InstEd It! - InstEd - Make packaging more productive (free version) to be invaluable.

    Beats the living daylights out of having to use Orca - although to be fair Orca is the one that lets you get to the very nitty gritty parts of .MSI packages and .MST transforms.
