    Clicker 5 upgrade issue

    This is an ongoing issue that ive only just got round to looking at again now that my network plays nice.

    We have Clicker 5.1 on our workstations and need Clicker 5.2 now when i deploy the update i get all sorts of error messages and from what i read i think i need to delete the original to install the new one.

    On the Clicker website i found a bat file that will delete the old versions.

    so....how do i use the bat file to get rid of the existing installation and then get it to add the new one...is there an automated way of doing it is what im basically asking....

    Did you crack it?

    I have run similar files from my user file - just firing the bat file up from the individual workstations.

    easiest way ive foud is just to create a gpo and assign it as a startup script

    but if clicker 5.1 was deployed via msi couldnt you just remove it from the gpo and tell it to uninstall that way the pcs will process the gpo with unincatll to remove it then if you add 5.2 to that gpo install 5.2

    I think clicker was installed during the creation of the image, so it wasn't really deployed that way as such.

    i used the bat suggested by Crick

    echo "Uninstall Clicker5 UK + US version 5.00"
    msiexec /qn /uninstall {7A553556-1228-4F34-9953-F4F06D061FC4}

    echo "Uninstall Clicker5 US version 5.10"
    msiexec /qn /uninstall {5BCB1973-C027-48AB-9CE8-A823909356A5}

    echo "Uninstall Clicker5 UK version 5.10"
    msiexec /qn /uninstall {222D87B2-75B0-4E9C-B9F5-AABCA1049941}

    echo "Install Clicker 5 version 5.20"
    msiexec /qb /i "\\SERVERNAME\SHARENAME\v5.20.0.0\clicker 5.msi"
    then using a bat that is used during logon ive added a CALL command to start the clicker.bat.

    I've tried one computer and it seems to have worked, but want to check another one just to be absolutely sure!

    Can you not use the msi cleanup tool to delete all of the msi entries, then delete the program folders with a script instead?

    Also, check the Product Identifier for the version you have installed matches that on the batch file?

    if you have teh old msi cant you batch file msiexec /uninstall //server/software/clicker5.msi /qn

    but if its part of an image it may be a case of removing it on each pc manually

    Hi little miss, are the errors down to the install not being able to find the shared drive which the resources are on? I have fixed that this very afternoon!

    This is a bit long winded, so stick with me!

    I'm also working with the 5.2 version already, but the issue exists in the 5.1 version as well (I have a fix for the 5.2 Install so that it doesn't happen again)

    The MSI database file that comes with clicker has an entry which demands that it can see the shared drive with the path to resources that was entered when the product was originally installed, So when you are installing it or unistalling it you need to be able to see the drive.

    This creates a problem when you try to uninstall or install the product with Group policy, as the SYSTEM account tends to handle this, and I am yet to find a way of passing a mapped drive to the system account!

    This fix requires you to know the modified date of the clicker package and also have the MSI editing tool 'Orca' handy.

    Find the Clicker Package in C:\Windows\Installer\ - it is no longer called 'Clicker 5', but has a name relating to its product ID - 5.2 should be 3d43e85b.msi

    If you know the modified date of the package or size of it it will make your life easier. The 5.2 version was modified on the 18/12/2008 at 14:19 and is 2.458KB

    Copy this msi file, and open it up in orca

    In the table called 'Property' there will be a Property called 'FILES' with a Value of a drive letter. Right click on it and 'drop row'. Save the package.

    I then copied this edited package to all of my machines in the school, replacing the existing one in C:\windows\installer.

    Now when you try to unistall the package (using the msiexec uninstall command) it shouldn't fail!

    As for the 5.2 install, I removed the FILES entry from the Clicker 5 msi. This resulted in the install not requiring the mapped drive, but also not pointing to the Shared resources.

    A quick import of some reg files (the important bits to me have been starred out!) - My shared drive is called Q:\ - and it was working again. And an unistall works fine as well.

    The reg keys:
