Clean install of RM Successmaker 1.3

    Oh god.

I've been asked to do a clean install of RM SuccessMaker 1.3 onto our new network. We're running a Win7/Server 2008 Vanilla Network so we don't have a support contract with RM and the support materials I've found are for much much older networks. Does anybody have any advice on setting up the Sybase Database, importing a backup from an old server and getting the damn thing to work?

We have the old server and want to make a virtual machine with this on, I suppose it could be done a long way round by cloning the machine but I'd rather not have to do this.

    Thanks.

EDIT: I've tried to install the software and after it asks me to locate the database it crashes with a 3081: FileRead: Invalid File Handle error. Google isn't much help.

According to the RM website SuccessMaker is not compatible with Vista, so I doubt you will be able to get it to work on Win7

We don't want to upgrade to 1.7 due to incompatabilities with our current SM Database. I think I'm making progress though, once I know its all owrking properly I'll wite up a guide.

    RM Success Maker

    Hi

Old thread, I know. Here's my response for reference...

I have RM Success Maker working on Server 2008 and Win7 clients.

I have a bunch of documentation that I made (and copied) when the RM engineer installed RM Success Maker at a school I work for. I let him on the server - with constant supervision

I don't recall the version of RM Success Maker that he installed, but it was the latest version as of April 2010 ish.

Can confirm the client of this version *does* work on Vista and Win7, and I upgraded the Win2003 server on which the server portion of the software ran to Win2k8, and Success Maker appears to still work. (There's no reason it shouldn't!)

If anyone needs some help getting something up and running from scratch, I'm sure it's possible to cobble something together. (Pretty sure the RM engineers work on the same basis when it comes to installing this piece of 'software' - i.e. cobbling something together.)

Feel free to email me: hazymat@gmail.com

Good luck to anyone reading this...
