Free Software for ICT teaching

At the moment I am loading all the software we use onto a new machine ready to be imaged for the IT suite.
It would seem an opportune moment to make sure that we have all the software that we can get.
This school is a middle school and so covers KS2 and KS3 (years 5 to 8).
We are looking for useful FREE software!
We have Trellian WebPage atm and we have paid for Comic Life.
Has anyone got any other ideas for software that might be of use to a pretty high-tech ICT teacher

Have a look at The Essential Software List - Wiki also have a look at list on portableapps.com, even though they are the portable versions you can use that as a list to look for full versions.
