    Hello all,

wondering if any of you have come a cross a piece of maths software called maths watch.

The issue I am having is that it will not play from the cd in a networked eniroment with group policy being applied. however when I run in a virtual pc it will run fine.

the software is based onto of camtasia menu maker and player.

I contacted the company but they were not very helpful.

We currently use this here but I have it setup on IIS so users can access it over the Intranet. Had quite a bit of trouble setting it up though with the player not running.

Are you trying to run it from a virtual cd?

I am running to from the phsical media as we only have single user licenses for it so cannot run from a network share or ISS. and when I did test it from the network was sternly repremanded by the software developer. (I did explaine that I was testing and that no student could access it)

There's a threshold number where if you buy more than x many student copies, you get a free site licence.

no errors you start the software go through the options select the clip that you want the player starts up but the video does not play just sticks on the first frame of video. if you slide the progress bar the frames progress.

So its not just me who had problems then i provided the users with a shortcut to files on physical media still getting them complaining. Found it runs the AVi's fine when not using the built in camtasia player. There support is frankly <expletive deleted>

Yeah had major issues as I work with the OP, we can navigate to the files on the CD or network location and play them through WMP, even downloaded the camtasia player from the camtasia website which still didn't work. Now on a freshly installed PC not on the network it works, however we'd not made a change on the system for it to stop working. We're just confused as to the root cause of the issue. Tried it as a local admin and network admin on the same PC and it too wouldn't run, so it couldn't be a permission issue? I'm not surprised the support is poor, they appear to be a small company who haven't moved forward with their product very much.

All players on the PC's are upto date, flash, shockwave, real player ent, java, quicktime, even VLC player

    Hi Edugeekers,

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

We have been struggling with this for the past two days after our summer upgrades. Cue staff saying "it worked last year". After playing around with video codecs and players we started removing programs from a PC. We eventually traced the problem to.... Ranger Remote Control. Probably the last thing you'd think of. We upgraded from 9.02 to 10.5 recently and that seems to have broken Maths Watch. If you can revert back to an older version of RRC then it should work, we went back to 9.02 here. We had to get a previous licence from our My Ranger login on their website.

The problem seems to be with updates made to RRC's PCIHOOKS.DLL file to tie into Windows for screen capture and viewing.

Hope this helps you all because it's kept us very busy here since yesterday!
