North Yorkshire Perspectives -> LOC8

This is primarily for anyone who has one of the "North Yorkshire Perspectives" disks that is a sort of "Google Earth" for the North Yorks area..

I was recently asked to reinstall this on the network of one of my schools and given that it was still marked beta and at least 2 years old I did some digging around to see if there was a newer version available (especially as it's a pig to install via GPO, etc..).

Turns out (after a LOT of digging) that the project was dropped somewhat when the key mover retired and then picked back up shortly after to become a web-based project as part of the Yorkshire and Humberside Grid for Learning under the name "LOC8".

The project is ostensibly back in "Alpha" so your mileage may vary but I'm getting sorted out to try to it with a few teachers and will report back on progress.

For comparison, in Lancashire we have something called Mario which appears to be similar.

Just as an update to this..

The email given on the http://loc8.yhgfl.net/ page (to request access) doesn't work or at least it doesn't from my system. So you'd be advised to phone the contact number on here and request access that way.

Once you're in just choose viewer and away you go..

Note: it uses Java.
