Heinemann
Just had a flyer from Heinemann - a little quote to make you laugh. I see what they were thinking, but even so...
Because IIS is a standard part of most Windows server packages, we've concluded that this is the best web server to use.

Other web servers, such as Apache, often require licensing so wouldn't suit as many schools.
hmmm....
Fair play to them for releasing their titles as 'intranet-based applications'. Makes deploying them a cinch, but the ones I've had so far are coded in asp, so even if you wanted to 'license' an Apache server to run them: tough! Unless someone has developed an open-source compatible? Geoff?

Andy.

Re: Heinemann
rofl!
I have always hated Heinemann software for the simple reason that its soooo badly written and our teachers love randomly buying CDs using eLearning credits, usually from Heinemann.
It makes you wonder how their product works at all if thats the kind of info they work from themselves lol

Hmm, missed this thread first time round. Anyways.
Apache! Licensing? Have I missed something?
Clearly they are on crack. Which perhaps explains the quality of their coding.
Unless someone has developed an open-source compatible? Geoff?
As mentioned above:
http://www.apache-asp.org/
It *uses* perl (so you'll need mod_perl running). But it will interpret most ASP, apart from really funky .NET stuff (ASP.NET basically). You need mono for that instead.

Neither of these solutions currently work on Windows Apache. But then, why bother?

...and their bl**dy interactive poetry cd's. I've just spent the best part of an hour trying to get it to install on a client machine as a test. It won't work.
And another thing, why does software such as this, which is paid for, have a user forum? open source I can understand, but aren't they meant to iron out the major bugs (such as not being able to install it) before releasing it?
It makes you want to spit!
beeswax (170 over 114 I reckon)
