I just counted the number of individual pieces of 'educational' software we have on our system and it comes to over 200 titles.
Is it just this school or are other schools using as much?

'using' is the operative word. I started at a new school 3 weeks ago, this week I got a reminder from RM to renew our licence on some maths software. I couldn't find it anywhere on the system, but did find a box, unopened, answering to RM's description. There was a similar problem in my previous school, but at least the software had been opened.Originally Posted by alan-d

Yep- the same here really. How much of it do they use? About a fifth...

Just out of interest. Which Maths software is this then.....................?
I've tried to get them to cut down but all I get is - 'we need to use it' usually this means for 1 lesson in the yearOriginally Posted by beeswax

Not a problem. Conduct a teaching and learning audit of the software installed and get the staff to show how each piece of software adds something to the students' education.Originally Posted by alan-d
It is worth noting that this is something that is handy for when someone needs to track ICT across the curriculum too ... and so that makes it handy for both OFSTED and anyone looking at NAACEMark/ICTMark.
It is even better if you get a teacher or a member of Manglement to push it, so you don't get the backlash ... or the work :-)
That is an interesting point with regards to software not been used I must have a lot of software there use only once.
Will bear that in mind
Nice idea
Although we've just had Ofsted and got the NAACE mark, but still worth a try![]()
Ha thats nothing! We've got some software from 1997, that they never got working (cost nearly £4k in '97). They spent ages, could not get the thing to run. Now they've got their 1st technician, I've been given till tomorrow to get it working! (it's nearly 10 years old!!!! )Originally Posted by beeswax
what software is that? WordPerfect or WordStar![]()
Ah well, that's what technicians are for!!!Originally Posted by StewartKnight
In my partnership of primaries I have done the deed of installing new networks for em all with Ranger controlling Win2003 AD systems.
I told them we are starting minimum and building up from there.
To date all of the staff seem perfectly happy with the core set of office products - good internet resources and a few bespoke applications like:
RM Maths
Revlelation Natural Art
My World
Colour Magic
Number Magic
Info Workshop
Word Shark
Clicker
Flowol
Flexicad and Flexitree
2 Simple Toolkit
Plus some Flash based interactive Maths bits
Nobody has asked for Encarta 97 or Millys Mathshouse or Zoobinies yet!!!
The staff are finally realising that IT is a tool to drive a lesson and the new IWBs and Smartboard software is great as its making best use of the network and shared resources.
Keep it lean - keep em keen!

Since performing my migration from NT4/9x to Citrix (almost single-handed - 2 weeks of help from Dos_Box!), I have only just started to consider re-installing most of the apps.
The Library and 6th Form demanded some progs straight away but other than that there has only been Office installed! Who needs all this other software?!? :P
