We paid to upgrade to v3.9.03 but because of a problem i had to change the IEPwriter EXE to version 3.7.1.2 hence why there are two IEPwriter Exe's, we are still awaiting for the issue to be resolved.

I've used this in the past, it wasn't too difficult to configure, but I can't really remember much about it.

Okay, so, I crated a folder on P:\IEP Writer and copied all of the files into there. I installed the templates and database to P:\IEP Witer\IEP but it now complains when I try to run it that it's not got the disc, which is why I had to run it as a virtual CD in the first place.

I take it you did the same with V3 and it just ran? What do you have in your IEPV3INI file?

I'm trying to remember what I had to do for IEP Writer.

IIRC (v3) there are per-user config files or you can point them to a single file.

It's not something daft like checking they can modify c:\windows\sims.ini ?

You can set permissions for reg keys in GP. You have to do it for the likes of the ALan testing software etc.

    Option explicit

    Dim oShell

    set oShell= Wscript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

'Replace the path with the program you wish to run c:\ etc...

    oShell.Run "runas /noprofile /user:administrator ""C:\PATH"""

    WScript.Sleep 100

'Replace the string --> YOUR_PASS <--- with the

'password used on your system. Include the tilde "~" at the end

    oShell.Sendkeys "YOUR_PASS"

    Wscript.Quit

Make this into a VBS , Replace PAth with the full path to the file you want to run , and change the admin password
Now you want to encode this into a VBE file(sce10en.exe) , so prying eyes cant see what the admin password is

I would recomend making a seperate Domain Admin account just incase some 1 can decode the VBE you can remove the admin account easily..

This is a very easy method and works very well

Okay, the issue is that my configuration file has an InstallPath= and it wants to read from the CD each time.

It doesn't seem that this is present in V3? If I can get around this then we're fine.

I think an upgrade to V3 may be necessary.

You can't point it to the likes of P:\ as it knows this isn't a CD ROM drive.

    Did any one solve this?

You appear to be talking about 2 versions here? IEPDLG and SIMS Version 3 IEP Writer. I am also trying to set this up on a TS Server, The Application has been set to run in Windows XP Service Pack Compatibility Mode, which made the prompt for install keys go away. I have setup the data on a share which every which needs access to has full write permissions. The problem is, I keep getting an Error 'Unable to set DataDir' or similar, can any one remember if they received this error?
