I did also mean to ask is this MSI for deployment in machine policy only or can it be added to user based MSI/Policy installs ?
Cheers

Not tested user based installs, but your welcome to test. We work here with machine deployment so never tried it.
Let me know if you have any problems, or even if it works![]()
Seems Okay so far, only that it places the shortcut on your OWN desktop if you run it under userbased install, so I removed the desktop shortcut creation from the package.
We dont let our staff store things on the desktop as it is a redirected shared desktop (icon deployment so much quicker)
Apart from that it's great.
Thanks!!

Yeh left it all in as its easier then adding it again.
How do you implement the redirected desktop thing?
We *may* be interested
Can they set background etc and play with shortcuts?
Cheers
Nope setting background is different but they cant play around with shortcuts.
It's redirected using group policy redirected folders where you can redirect the desktop folder to induvidual folders per user or one folder for everyone (staff) , so I redirect it to a "read only" network folder, working offline is a pain and mobsync will try and sync any created offline files on the desktiop with a read only folder, so any software we deploy places isons on the "all users desktop" on the local machine.
But they are always told not to save stuff to the desktop, anyways ;-)
Granting everyone write access to a folder under Program Files might be a problem for those using Software Restriction Policies to prevent students launching unauthorised executables/scripts. I would suggest you move the cache to a folder on the root (eg c:\GoogleEarthCache), or possibly the all users application data folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data) and set the necessary permissions.Originally Posted by ZeroHour

Cheers Zerohour... Installing on my Primary School Network Now!

BTW for your info all as soon as V4 is no longer "Beta" I will be creating a package for it![]()

Anyone got the V4 MSI please so I dont have to mess with Wininstall LE![]()

See http://www.edugeek.net/index.php?nam...ewtopic&t=5896
The download links have been pulled for now though while some policies get sorted out.
I also need an .msi for Google Earth, if not, I will have to touch every computer in 5 schools! Consider it energy conservation!
Thanks.
