We have a bespoke database that has been set up in-house for the teaching staff to track their performance management.
The school has been approached by another school with a view to buying the database as it is a very good tool.
The question is how much do we charge as we've no idea how much it is worth?
Many thanks.

In the spirit of sharing best practice between schools you should surely give them the database for free and GPL it for everybody else to use![]()

Depends on if you have any ongoing costs relating to say supporting/developing it?
Ben
You have to take into account all the factors.
Are you gonna support it ?
Are you gonna provide source code ?
Updates, who installs them ?
Are you going to make enough money on this to warrant the time you spend ?
Even if you open source/gpl it there is no reason that you can't charge for it, you just have to make the source code available.
Think about the benefits of open sourcing the software mean that if other people make changes and distrubute them, then you have the choice of incorporating them into your version.
Is this a tool that could be used by more than just two schools ? Could YOU make a living from it ?
Do you use any open source software yourself ? It's actually a nice feeling when other people use software you've written.
Lots to think about, or just open source it and let people know that if it breaks they get to keep both parts.
