    zip

This is probably a really stupid question:

need Zip compression software - requirements:

    No password protection
    Runs on windows with GUI
Free for comercial / edu use
    no spyware
    no advertising
preferably saves to .zip as default

can I shutdown the password thing on 7zip ?

Err, didn't you just describe something exactly like Windows Compressed folders?
Right Click > Sent To > Compressed Folder

    Re: zip

    I use 7-Zip here.

    http://www.7-zip.org/

There's a prebuilt MSI you can deploy it with on the download page. It's GPL.

    Re: zip

Of course, didn't think of that because its such a rubbish feature - poor compressiuon format, no passwords. Just what I need.

I'll look into enabling it on 2k

    @ geoff.
indeed, but Boss doesn't want kids to password protect their files. They have no right to privacy here (real world training I assume).
Can you disable the feature ?

Sure. Just comment it out in the source and recompile.

    Re: zip

    configure
    make && make install

    ?
    Thought not.

I'll probably need to buy a tonne of other software to do it and It'll take me an age. Anyway It seems enabling folder compression on 2k is pretty easy, thanks though.

@Cybernerd: For ease, simply make it School policy to delete any password protected files. They'll soon learn that they can't hide their stuff that way.
