    POLICY CENTRAL - UPDATE

    Just received this via our LEA - thought it may be useful for others too.

    POLICY CENTRAL ENTERPRISE

    As you may be aware we are experiencing issues with Microsoft Internet Explorer browser performance whilst PCE Client is installed. During the last 4-5 weeks IE has undergone some protocol changes via Microsoft update which has altered the behaviour of the browser at Winsock level where the Policy Central filtering engine operates. The issues have proved to be exceptionally difficult to resolve.

    However, Forensic Software engineers are now finalising the solution and v.3009 will be made available as an automatic update to all sites in 2 weeks time.

    If you are unable to tolerate the IE browser issues until that time, then please undertake one of the following temporary measures for affected users only:

    * Use another browser like Firefox, there are no issues with this browser.

    Download here - http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox

    * Disable Policy Central client via the PCE Console.

    Login to PCE Console:-
    ->Go to the “Users” tab within PCE console:-
    -> locate user
    -> edit user (right hand side of screen)
    -> click on the “Disable Rights?” box
    -> insert period of time PCE is to be disabled
    -> save and update.

    We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and frustration this issue has undoubtedly caused.

    I read it too. I'm kind of glad in a way that it's been clarified there is a problem, but this has been ongoing for months, not weeks. The IE update in question was released in June/July if memory serves me right.

    In the meantime I have deployed FF to all my schools which has dramatically improved the situation with browsing, accessing e-portal and other web based applications.

    Hi Yeh I fixed my problems with Fire Fox a few weeks back. But I have another issue I cant help think its PCE, Yesterday 30 kids log on in one room normally everything is fine, windows start to log on, but then takes forever load the log on batch script nearly 30 laptops couldn't get passed the loading screen, normally 30 seconds to go on complete takes over 15mins and doesn't load properly, I walked passed another class room down the Hall and they were all logged in with no problems.
    I've checked the network, Ive made no changes.

    Sometimes I get the error message on the laptop saying PCE not working error.

    Anyone had this issue?

    I recieved this email from them directly a couple of weeks ago. I still havent heard back from them regarding an update?? I have removed it from our site because it slowed everyones browsing down to a crawl.

    Have many people had this problem? would be interested to hear if Securus users have had similar problems.

    Cheers
    Andy

    PCE causing Problems

    I really do love the software but I suspect it could have been responsible for a few niggles for ages.

    Not heard of any update as yet, we're touch wood not too affected as yet. (IE becomes useless after 5 mins of use so close/reopen window).
