    SMART Notebook 10 Activation/register problem

    Right,

I created an image for our new ereg machines. I pre installed Notebook10 which worked fine. I used our licence key on the install.

    Now the problem,

The teachers logged on for the first time yesterday and all was working fine, now today it is saying that the software needs to be activated. Entering the licence again does not work, it just says error.

This is the same on every new PC.

The only thing i can think of is a permissions error.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

    Thanks!

I contacted Smartboard with a similar problem a while back, and they were very helpful (and speedy!).

Try creating a batch file with this lot and then run it on the affected machines:

    Code:
    REG DELETE "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SMART Technologies\License Information\Keys"

    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\SMART Technologies\SMART Product Update\activationwizard.exe" --suid clash_notebook --m=6 --pk XX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
The Xs are obviously your license key!

Could this be that Notebook is trying to register itself online? SMART didn't think about proxy servers when coding it, so it tries to make a direct connection and fails (just like the auto update does).

    HI

I contacted the company and downloaded a file called install manager that allowed me to create a mst file. Then I deployed the packed through gpo.

You can change loads of settings these settings are then installed at install

My Tech tried the above reg fix yesterday but it still seems to be causing an issue today

    HI

I have had only one issue with the netbook installing through group policy. You have to remove the old version before allowing group policy to try and install otherwise it gets stuck part way through the install which is not very good as its prior to a gui interface you can use.

    It worked fine for me.

I just dropped it into a bat file and ran it localy while logged in as an admin.

We also bunged it onto our logon script.

Will confirm the above works fine - did a similar batch file myself after calling support, who suggested I deleted said registry key. Didn't feel like doing it across all the classrooms

Cheers for the batch snippet though, rather more complex than what I knocked up and will save some more time

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I'm having problems with this now.

I'm trying to install Notebook 10.6 but don't particularly want to have to run around to each machine to enter the activation key. Is there any way of automating this? I can't find any switches in the installer to allow a key to be entered during installation and I can't seem to find anything about it at all.

If anyone can help me with this I'd be grateful.

You can download and use the Installation tools mentioned above to create an MST to use to install it which will do the job for you

I am banging my head against a brick wall with this at the minute.

Created the MST, used msiexec /i smartnotebook.msi /t "transform.mst" /quiet to install it but it ignores the MST.

Merged the MST with the MSI using Orca. Still ignored.

    Head. Bang. Wall. Anyone?

This sounds crazy but is your .mst filename more than one word? I'm sure I had a problem with a previous version of the installer where it would only work with "filename.mst" and not a "long filename.mst"
