I used a startup script with a WMI filter to check to see if it was installed to take it off. The WMI Filter is:

    Code:
    select * from Win32_SoftwareFeature where ProductName LIKE "%Macromedia Contribute%"
on the ROOT\CIMv2 namespace. The startup script is:

    Code:
    %systemroot%\system32\msiexec.exe /x "\\ghostsrv\install\Macromedia Studio MX 8\Disk 1\FSCOMMAND\Macromedia_Contribute_3.11.msi" /q
Obviously you'd need to adapt the location of the contribute.msi to where ever you store it.

Thanks meastaugh1, it worked a treat.

I've still recommended to our FM that I move to PDFCreator, but she says she'll have to ask all the teachers if they want to move and I can predict the answer.

    Cheers

so how did you come to work it out anyway.
From memory, I just examined the errors in event viewer which display the component(s) the installer is attempting to repair. I didn't spend much time investigating why Windows Installer was just hanging indefinitely due to time constraints.

well your fix did the job that installer error doesnt come up anymore, only problem is that i have a new problem now, say i write a word docuemnt, and then try to convert it to a pdf, it sends to the pdf printer but it just stays and produces an error in the print job.

its always the same as soon as you fix one problem another arises.

    Thanks again

Under the Advanced tab of the flashpaper "printer", check whether advanced print features are enabled? If so, try disabling.

No, you can set that in the transform as well because it's just a registry key.

Re: Problem with macromedia Contribute after Macromedia 8 in

i have it working now, the problem was that i had altered the original msi as it was not creating the printer properly but with this transform and the original msi it all work without any problems.

tested it on one machine, just now to try it on a few to see if it was a fluke lol.

    Thanks again for the help.

Re: Problem with macromedia Contribute after Macromedia 8 instal

We fixed the problem by using an M$ utility called MSIZAP.

    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa370523.aspx

Turned out that there were some Contribute temporary install files left in the image we used on our curriculum workstations. MSIZAP of the contribute product code seemed to fix our issues.

    Hope this is of use.

I still have a problem with this, i deployed the msi and the mst but when i logged on as a user it would not let me convert to a pdf, but as admin it worked fine, it seems to need some access to add the printer.

Hi, 1st post so pls be kind - I gave our pupils the rights to load/unload drivers in group policy and this stopped the contribute error when starting word. Hope this helps!
