Default Newspaper creating software ?

Apart from the usual suspects - Word, QuarkXpress, Publisher & Scribus, can anyone point me in the right direction in regards to a basic newspaper style writing application ? Failing that - some good templates ?
Nothing too complicated as it will be for youngsters........

I always found Serif Page Plus to be a good product. It's available for a free download from their website.
