1st September 2008, 11:28 AM #1 Smartboard software question
We have smartboards in all our classrooms, but it seems that the teachers can no longer write with the smart pens on top of anything, only into the smart notepad. For example, in a powerpoint presentation they want to be able to scribble on the slides, but touching the pen to the screen just causes the next slide to show.
Is there anything I need to do to enable the 'write on anything' feature?

1st September 2008, 02:52 PM #4 It sounds like the pens touch action has been set to click rather than track so when the pen makes contact it triggers a mouse click rather than moving the mouse there. I would check the configuration in the system tray tool to make sure the actions are set as they are supposed to be.

1st September 2008, 03:04 PM #5 IIRC the inkaware component is what allows writing in other programs.
Is this happening on all machines? have you implemented anything recently that may stop this (software restriction, an update?)

1st September 2008, 03:12 PM #6 Not sure if its accross the whole school, to be honest the features of the smartboards are grossly underutilised so doubt many teachers actually will have tried. Ill wait till the kids go home at 3:25 and have a play with the settings. Its most likely just something simple.

9th September 2008, 03:43 PM #7 Did you get anywhere with this? Only today, two teachers suddenly can't write with their pens on their SMARTboards? They can drag and click by touching the boards, but the pens don't work. And the green light on the edge of each board is flashing rather than fixed. Seems a bit of a coincidence that two boards should have the same fault on the same day. Our boards are used a lot, and relatively problem free usually. I have just emailed our support company (phone engaged).

9th September 2008, 04:16 PM #8 It was a problem common to the teachers who had upgraded themselves to 10. A fiddle with the inkware seemed to resolve it. I had to add some new programs to the list that would let you write over.
