28th April 2008, 10:31 AM #2 I've found the Lesson Monitor on PDA software absolutely dire, so much so we gave up with it... Our SIMS support team at the LEA couldn't make it work so we figured it wasn't worth it what with having to have a new username and password for it too!

28th April 2008, 06:12 PM #6 Profiles 7 is the SIMS.net report writing software. I think it is now part of the webparts so access via a PDA should be possible.
You can choose to use comment banks or text.

As I said they plan to use comment banks and then tidy up once he is at the computer.
Going to be rolling out profiled so I am told and going to start using comment banks this is specially useful for our music teacher who has to do a report for every child in the school.
Hence why he wants pda access as thinking is that while lesson going on when student completes assignment he can then use pda to mark that on his report.
Didn't have time today but got sit down get full understanding on what he wants and then go from there..
This thread is start of research more than anything.

Sims.net Profiles does support Comment Banks and is good. Staff have used it and its even accessible to the non IT literate staff as they just select numbers. It also allows free text inside the comment bank generated stuff [if that makes sense]. It is a webpart for sharepoint which helps but unsure about the PDA requirement.
AIM High software is good, includes comment banks but not as comprehensive as Sims.net mainly used for free text, which we moved away from as SLT wanted to centralise everything to Sims.net which makes sense.

Would you beleive our SLT have movede away from Profiles and back to word tempaltes for reports, they say the profiles reports are too impersonal! I said i could re-write them but they are having none of it!

I would just create a new comment bank with nothing in it ... that way you have a permanent record on Sims.net, and staff write the reports using the look and feel + you don't have a nightmare in collation and printing.

1st May 2008, 12:03 PM #11 Right goes being that school is going profiles route and as far as can tell no way that can get profiles on a pda (not sure about sims.net mobile) and not sure if webparts will work on RM Kaleidos, if we can buy only part of the web part and if the profiles webpart will sove the issue.
We need software that can do following
1) Links back to sims.net profiles
2) Can access via pda so that our music and PE teacher can
- Bring a student report up select comment back saying "completed drums level one"
and so on and so on etc
As said this needs to linked back to sims so they can then load profiles or what ever up and complete rest of the report.
So with those specific requirements any ideas...
