    Free music production software??

    I know its a long shot but does anyone know of any free production software for windows?

    I know of a few for linux but would prefer to use windows otherwise the teachers would need to learn an OS before they start learning the software

    Cheers

    It's only a gui, and you can make linux look like windows if you want.

    Yes, and other things too. I dont want to specify too much of a criterior because its that wide a field and i am open to anything. Things i want;

    sequencer
    virtual instruments - synths, samplers, drums machines etc
    virtual effects
    etc

    Examples of commercial apps; Reason, Cubase, FL Studio, Garageband etc

    Reaper

    Reaper isn't free, but it's about as close as you'll get ($50) for a fully developed music production suite. You can download the fully functioning version for free, but are asked to pay if you use it beyond the 30 day trial period.

    It doesn't do everything the big name suites do, but it isn't far off. I've been using v1 as a laptop based alternative to Sonar and I've been pleasantly surprised by it's quality and especially the quality of the bundled plugins.
