Richie - how do you get the driver to install the board properly via gpo? - as mine puts it as the wrong device [manual install] so i have to manually change it to the right one.

Hmm, not sure on that one - so far only tested it against the serial port version.... thinking about it, I might have to look in to some sort of scripting solution to alter it to USB, as there will be no means of setting the hardware correctly within an MSI

    Installshield error 1608: http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108440

I would try deleting all your temp files (windows temp folder and user temp folder) then restart the machine and try again. The installshield app is very easily confused.

I loaded the resources CD on the server and redireced everyones shared resources to point to the central location (using admin.ini). Did I do wrong?

I do that too, but it's not so hot for (offline) laptops unless you sync the resources folder.

    @sahmpeepee

Yes, I see what you mean. I usually do a different config for laptops that will be used offline.

Does it work OK if you make it an offline folder?

Tried that but no joy - I'm going to have a play again later on as ppl are going to really moan soon

I noticed that it uses ISScript 9 - msi is in the driver package - so I'll try installing that first and see how it goes.

I did have 10 installed but confusingly, cant seem to find a Add/Remove Proggy entry :S

EDIT: PS If anyone can let me haqve a copy of a edited msi of the driver that is silently installable - preferably the new version of the driver - please PM me [with a URL link to it if poss] so i can hopefully get it installed and crack on with it

    Cheers

Re: Promethean Resources cd + MSI Install

Some of the isscript installs don't have a reference in add/remove programs.
The annoying thing about isscript is that some apps require specific versions of it, too. So, if you have installed isscript11, but an app uses isscript 9, then you have to make sure isscript 9 is installed as well. However, as each isscript version uses same productid you can't install more than one version... unless you use something like orca (in the windows 2003 sdk i think) to change the productid of each version

Re: Promethean Resources cd + MSI Install

yeah - ISScript 9 the driver uses. Its got ISScript 8 installed and I did wonder whether you could have multiple versions running - stupid IS ppl

I'll try that then and pray

EDIT: So if u changed the product id of a isscript installer to something like:

    10000000000000000000000011 for ISScript 11
    10000000000000000000000009 for ISScript 09

etc... you could install each one you alter in this fashion correct? [providing those product id's havent been used already that is hehe]

I haven't tried it to be honest.. the few offline machines that have AS2 installed get a local install (we don't have many so it's not really an issue). Synchronising shared flipcharts full of large digital photos could get annoying quite quickly - I guess it depends on what your teachers are producing. At least they'd be getting the stuff produced in-house though (if your teachers can be coerced into sharing that is).

Sweet zombie jesus - all working

Thanks to you all for the info [especially Richie].

Fully automated [havent checked to see whether the serial number is populated or not on new installs ...as i havent done one yet] with the resources & help = all deployed through the GP - and the very latest version 2.5.something.

I think i may have a pint tonight to celebrate lol

...or better yet - rag puddin' [in-house joke there ]

Re: Promethean Resources cd + MSI Install

    Thanks for the thank Tarquel
I was glad to help - I've only just started on the road of GPO installs and RIS (we're phasing out Ghost) and Activstudio was one bit of software i'd recently pushed out. I'm slowly going through the school's collection of software converting it all to msi or, at the very least, silent installs pushed out at the end of RIS installation.
I'm sure I'll be the one asking questions of this forum soon enough (struggling at the moment to build a silent SIMS.net install for one - only the one i've made so far doesn't pick up workstation updates and throws up an error when going in to Nova T.... bloody SIMs grrrrr).
