    Music programme for Windows?

Any recommendations for a music programme - preferably low cost or free - for Windows please? I know about Sibelius but this isn't for exam work more for our Emotionally Disturbed KS3 Boys to explore.

Muse is great for a direct Sibelius replacement.

As a total alternative they may find interesting, SunVox is pretty cool (it's for making chip tunes but can do synth and sampling too, plus it's free)

not sure what they are like but we use Songsmith (I think this was free from Microsoft Partners in Learning) and the 2 Simple Music toolkit.

Not sure if they would suit secondary but they are ideas.
