I have three of these titles for years 7,8 and 9. They run a flash based program. I was previously running these just on our 2k machines. I have trouble with these as well as the activex controls dont always initialise but do the next time round. anyway......
On XP I get to the initial screen click start and it just doesnt do anything on the next screen
anyone got this and can share any Voodoo you used to get it working.
I tried Heinemann and they only offrered me a fix to sort out a problem with test results. I tried lowering all the setting on IE as well to test if something was getting blocked but it didnt help.
Any ideas?

Sounds lie the proggy I have. Firewall was the problem with mine, then we still had to type in the server address because it didn't detect it like with SP1

We had this problem too. The activeX control wasn't signed which means that it won't install without prompting you and having specifically tell it to. Our GPO prevented the kids from doing this, so in the end i logged onto each machine as admin and ran the software once to install the activeX control. A bit of a pain but it worked.
At the time we were having problems with this software, approximately 6 months after sp2 had been released, i phoned their tech support and described the problem and the response was basically 'we haven't tested it with sp2 and aren't going to do any time soon so tough'.
Also google toolbar caused me problems with this software so i would get rid of that if its installed.
As you say another 'quality' educational package!

Thats what I had to do with the 2000 machines and even then it was hit and miss if it worked when loading the application.
At the moment I have XP Fully updated install running as Domain Admin. I have flash and shockwave installed etc etc. I get to the go screen then I get a partially blank screen with the background for the page and no content most frustrating.

Have you installed the goal plugin thing that comes with the software. I had a nightmare with the same software until they reminded me to install the goal plugin, I set the msi to install whenever someone went onto the internet. it seemed to be only working for the admin account before that so it lead me to belive that someting was installed to the user profile.
I'm running it on 2k machines and now on XP SP2 machines with no problems at all.

Yes I have installed the goal plugin which inteferes with the official flash and shockwave installer as the first time students open a web page with flash the goal plugin MSI reloads :? If it worked I would be almost willing to put up with that but since it doesnt :x

I do remember speaking to Heinemann about the problem I had running it on the XP machines and the tech support person told me to change a load of security settings in internet explorer.

I know what you mean with this, I have no idea why it does this but it does work.
Try Heinemann, that's all I did.

I have just noticed that even though I have Flash Player 8 installed which it says when I right click a bit of flash on a web page this app reports as using Flash player 7! Is this just some sort of backward compatability thing or something I should investigate further?

I have confirmed the problem is with flash player 8. It simply refuses to work past a certain stage with it. I have a flash player 7 installer but it always tries to install the version 8 activex on the web pages. I am still trying to find a way round this.
