    It's a good game...

You just build theme parks and rollercoasters and other rides.

It's amazing! Not sure why for educational reasons though. Maybe physics due to having to get roller coasters right but I doubt they'd be real world enough.

Fantastic game! Not as educational as Sim City though.

It's an awesome game. However, it needs some serious power behind it to run the larger parks IME, graphics wise expecially. Intel HD3000+ may cope as far as integrated graphics go, otherwise you're looking at discrete.

They used to run RTC2 at my last school for Business Studies. That was the excuse, anyway

RTC3 is fun, but can be buggy. It was made that way and, for the most part, it's stayed that way.

Buy it from gog.com - Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum! for download $19.99 - GOG.com - and you'll get a version patched as best as can be and designed to run on modern systems, with no DRM whatsoever - so you could, in theory*, buy it once and just run the installer on every machine that needed it. The price is in dollars because GOG are lovely people who don't believe in regional pricing, so everything is priced in USD and you just pay the exchange rate equivalent

*Of course. I mention this only as a matter of academic interest.

I now have a bit more on this. It's for ICT covering Culture & The World around us.

    For Keystage: 3

The Aim of this unit is to use gaming platforms (in this case Rollercoaster Tycoon 3) to encourage literacy and social development, whilst learning key ICT functional skills. The students will learn the techniques for game design and will be using Rollercoaster Tycoon as an enquiry based play. This will take the form of writing emails sending attachments, researching, designing and building a theme park. Students will be connecting and building on their creativity and strategic thinking to complete challenges:

Students will Build on social and emotional development
Design a theme based on a given brief
Create and edit within the game
Review and assess against the original brief
Plan and develop strategies within a gaming platform

We were allowing the use of Minecraft in school but unfortunately it was bring abused. I suppose with the Rollercoaster software at least it being disk based there is chance to tightly control it's use.

What are others using to cover this work?
