Default Alternatives to successmaker

In our junior school they currently have 6 licenses of the antique non-networked version of this. They are now pushing to get some new pc's connected to our network and to up-date successmaker to the new networked version and to have on all the IT suite pcs.

Now i feel the software is very poor, especially for the amount of money it will cost us to do. After speaking to our senior school learning support department they are of the same opinion that it would be a waste of money. But as per normal i've been tasked with finding a replacement to present and convince the junior school that we are right.

So basically what are peoples opinions on successmaker, do u agree, and are there similar alternatives?

Default Re: Alternatives to successmaker

thread resurrection!

I've just found that our Junior LS teacher is still using successmaker software on a 10 year old standalone PC that's dropped off our audit and we'd forgotten about! We've no backups and no apparent way of recovering the software if that PC should failed (very likely given it's age).

I've had a read through the forum and everyone suggests that successmaker (even newer versions) is massively overpriced and a complete headache to deploy on a windows XP network.

Are there any alternatives out there? We use RM Maths for numeracy assessment so it would probably only really need to cover the reading/writing part of the software?

We use Accelerated Reader/Star Reding IIRC. This isn't exactly the same as Successmaker but achieves a similar aim. There are also numeracy version of the software.

Take a look at http://www.renaissance-learning.co.uk/ for more information.
