Oh the stress of being 19 again :)
I can't even remember being 19....
I do however remember being out of work for some time in the early eighties thanks to Thatcher's policies.
As the others have said, take a job - any job - get your certs and move on up. Network as much as you can - make as many contacts as you can. Always useful.
My thoughts exactly - get a job. Any job... doesn't really matter what it is. You'll meet people, you might meet people that know somewhere that needs an IT Tech.
It wouldn't do any harm at all.
What have you tried? Are you using job websites?, have you had any careers advice?, Have you considered work outside IT for a while?.
I know a lot of people think going into some corner of the internet and asking or even demanding something will get them what they want but in your case your best option is to find jobs, apply for jobs and in time, get jobs. No one else can or will do it for you.
Best of luck job hunting.
Another one on the 'get a job, any job' line here... shelf stacking, pushing supermarket trolleys, anything that shows that you can turn up on time and are prepared to work for a living.
And please, take up @witch 's offer of a cv check. She is the best person to sort that out for you. She is seriously good at it :)
MelodicBrush - I've PM'd you.
Sorry IanT beat me to it lol.
Nope, im not entitle to any benifits and yes I will try that, there's one that is local.
Go to the job seekers office and sign on. They will put you on a volunteer course (like they did with me) and they'll fund the exams etc. It's a good thing as I've gained a new reference, a new found appreciation for how hard builders actually work, and a new qualification. Infact if I don't het a job I'll be volunteering for the next one run by this company as its great to do!!
thank you for your post, it encouraged me alot
Not to worry. Due to this volunteer course I have a new qualification that's opens up work on building sites (from labouring to IT if I go for the appropriate exam). So go there and ask. And enjoy it if you get sent on one!
On mine there is myself, a plumber, a tiler, a bricklayer, an electrician, a mechanic, a carpenter, an actor, and former train driver.
Great chance to make good contacts as well.
I would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who's replied so far, this has to be the best internet community that I have come across yet and its given me a lot of hope and drive, I have now applied for some work in next and some work doing GFK mystery shopping which I can do at whatever times I have free and I have decided to pursue an offer I have been given on here. So now im just clenching tightly, I have been informed that my next exam for 701 will be on the 24th of January, tomorrow I will sign up to job seekers allowance.
Enjoy...let them know of ALL dates you have booked for exams or courses etc, and it should be straight forward :)
