I think you maybe being discriminated against due to your autism. It sounds like the only reason as to why you have been unsuccessful.
It's been 6 weeks for me so far, 60 jobs applied for and 1 phone interview and that turned out to be a different job than what i applied for (tech engineer £35k changed to application helpdesk from £25k in watford). Seems alot aren't interested in people relocating, the agents want someone in spitting distance of the office.

Unfortunatelly I think they're right, and there is no way to prove it, but they might be thinking that you'll either not integrate with the team, or do less work or have more time off or some other autism based stereotype. Do you tell them you're autistic?Quote:

I dont really know much about autism but how severe is yours? what difference does it make to your interviews?
I agree with some of the above it seems like the only reason why you wouldnt have after so long... unfortuantly!
That statement concerns me a little: 'interviewers are well informed of my needs' - what do you mean? What particular 'needs' do you have? That'll put a prospective employer off right away - wrongly, I know, but telling them what they 'need' to do for you is one way to instantly make them feel that you are going to be too much trouble.Quote:

If they are not returning your calls then personally I think that you have a good reason to seek DDA The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) : Directgov - Disabled people advice a possible place to start would be the CAB - most interviews are done on a points basis and these results should be kept by the HR dept of the place you have applied to.

I would recommend seeing the disability advisor at local job centre. As firms tend to not refuse if they are involved as feel might get a court case sad and wrong I know.

Personally I would not mention in advance that you are autistic. My son is autistic and I just worked on a uni project with a guy that was autistic.
Unfortunatelly most people's perception of autism is "Rain Man" so if you let them know in advance they might be put off straightaway.
I have to admit I wasn't thrilled to have the autistic guy on my team - my own prejudices coming out even though I have an autistic son - or maybe because of it! Within couple weeks we got used to him and he came out with some good ideas, although his people skills weren't great.
For those who don't know, autistic disorders come in a spectrum so you might some signs and never be diagnosed. Classic sign is poor people skills. Also, about a third of diagnosed cases have a normal or above average IQ.
Axe, I would suggest you change your interview technique a bit. First, don't let them know you are autistic. Second, if it is obvious to them, mention it briefly and make it into a positive thing! For example, people with autism are usually very good at concentrating on a their subject of interest and finding all there is to know about it. You could mention there are quite a few famous people that have/had autism and it never hurt them (Einstein, Lewis Carrol,Bill Gates(speculated) etc..). Try and challenge their perception and concetrate on what you can do well and how you might contribute and play down the How will you fit in a team. Try and convince them with your skills and maybe prepare one or two things to improve the existing network.
Above all, try and get there before the interview and have a look around the school. Ask lots of questions so you cn have some suggestions for improvement prepared for the interview.
