Senior ICT Technician - Staffordshire
Hey, my bosses Job is up for grabs (I'm not going for it because I'm off elsewhere myself). Sadly we use RM :( Hopefully someone with some actual SKILL and Knowledge will be able to whip this place into shape. It really needs it.

Well you have obviously done the sensible thing and gone elsewhere :D
Re: Senior ICT Technician - Staffordshire
That is about what I'm on for a network technician post. Nice to see they value their network so highly.
Re: Senior ICT Technician - Staffordshire
I was assuming that the post was for the person in charge of the network?

Yup, He/She'll basically be the only technician once I leave (beginning of October) but we're a college so its not too bad, we're pretty small really. Plus the director is leaving and several members of staff so it'll be basically totally different! Hopefully someone can use that opportunity to make large sweeping changes, like removing RM and perhaps finally balancing the servers out (My current boss really has no idea ¬_¬)
Re: Senior ICT Technician - Staffordshire
Theres no need to rip out RM if you know what you are doing. It is possible that if the place is small then you might want to go down a vanilla windows route.
First thing to do would be to get the RM network running properly, if you have bought support from RM / borough then use it.
Personally I think the wage is too low for quality candidate it sounds like is needed there.

Well with the (albiet limited) experiance I've had with RM here, it seems to cause more problems than it actually solves. And the support from the county is.... well. Awful. But still, I'm sure someone will come into and love it here. The director is leaving at the end of this school year so it's all change!
Re: Senior ICT Technician - Staffordshire
I'd probably be interested in the directors job if it was a non teaching post!

Re: Senior ICT Technician - Staffordshire
Have been running RM for past 4 years and have had no major problems like the school across the road has had with vanilla, ranger and CSE. Yes you heard me right in the four years i have been here the large Catholic school across the road has changed it's network 4 times. They still don't have an effective solution to their needs but have now gone with a managed system (don't know who with) but they are still having problems. I think people should speak as they find and i find RM does what i want it to do. Plus it is flexible enough to be manipulated if you know what you are doing. We have 8 servers
and 5 of these are linux servers which integrate with the windows 2000 architecture fine and we can do all manner of things effectively. I don't condemn any other operating interface i just find that RM works for me.
