£17k in Portsmouth - been here a year
I'm not employed by the school, as such. I'm PCC but work in a training centre and help out in the school when it's needed or quiet here.

OK, so the pay could be better, but one thing I am looking forward to is my pension! One of the best pensions in the world!

    Re: What salary?

Is that still going? anymore details?

I just spotted a NM job in a school in cardiff, Wales offering £26-28k but i missed the deadline.

I'm actually getting a hankering to go back into a school NM job as I'm getting bored doing the same thing all day.

Thats a bad example really as people like that have whole school responsibilities (as do you) and have some very important aspects of the machine that is the school left under their charge. As such they are paid accordingly .

so boilers and clean yards are more important than a working computer network?

    Re: What salary?

I'm on 17.5k. I figure the difference between 'industry' and education is about 20 years of investment leading to anywhere between 15% and 50% difference in pay.

Where education has invested £1m in ICT, 'industry' have invested £100m...

I don't like to see caretakers/Site Supervisors used as examples where pay is concerned in such a way for the reasons already stated. It's almost snobbery to say just because you do some cleaning that you should be paid a lot less, when you know very well of the all the important other roles somebody like that probably has.
If those boilers etc were not working then the school would be closed down (in the winter at least) so you tell me thats not important?

I'm with Chris on this and as such it's pretty much a different discussion.

    Re: What salary?

Pay is the sole reason I'm looking elsewhere. There's supposed to be a pay review for council employees in September but I have little hope of a fair pay rise. I'm a one man show for a pretty big network:

    18.5/4 years..

    Bleh!

Has anyone got their School to pay for MS qualifications?

    Re: What salary?

I think the main problem most of us have is that we are paid as technicians but do the job or most of the job as a network manager. I install servers, switches and this summer I’m fitting projectors as well as all the usual stuff you can expect to be doing the school holidays.

    Re: What salary?

Well reading through this i dont feel so hard up i'm on just under 23k for a Network Manager role, although the Bursar keeps expanding that to other areas too so will be expecting another pay increase soon.

I'm looking at buying a flat soon which will be hard around this area but i enjoy my job so will struggle through, even if i sleep on the floor and have to eat school dinners lol... like someone said you dont work in a school for the money.
