This sounded really interesting until I read the bit about the job being for 1 year only initially. That's a shame.

Please don't let that put you off applying.

Kind of cant help but. I know a year is a long time but I can't afford to have even a possibility of being out of a job in that time, even more so when you consider the level of input this post asks for.

You need a consultant more than a network engineer

My impression of this ad is that the school is in almost the same position my school was in when I took my job. My school had considered outsourcing but the Bursar had convinced them to give a full time post a go. It sounds like a final decision hasn't been made with this post, but I would say that if you went in and made an impression, the decision to keep support in-house would be made pretty quickly.

If my experience is anything to go by, a school like this can be very rewarding for the right person. It's big enough to have the money to do something interesting, but small enough for you to integrate with the rest of the staff.

Thank you to AngryTechnician who has summarised our position perfectly. There is nothing to add to this.

I've applied for the role as it sounds quite interesting with lots of scope for development! Would require a move up that way though, which i am happy to do. Or a 3 hour Commute each way!
