IT Technician - Macclesfield - Up to £26,962 - Close 4th Oct Lunchtime
Just saw this one floating around, not quite inside my travel distance but it may be of interest to other people.

Nice Salery and interesting job description/spec I thought.

3rd October 2011, 10:28 AM #5 That looks like a NM job, rather than a Tech job...

3rd October 2011, 10:28 AM #6 No worries. Pity I don't have VLAN or Cisco equipment essential experience. I would have applied.

This was my thought, the job title gives me quite serious reservations about applying.

Apparently the previous incumbent was made redundant (network manager) hence it can't be readvertised as such.

Legally, if the roles are the same, it doesn't matter if the title is different or not. The school would be breaking the law if the job description has not been varied somewhat.

To be honest, I think this is how a NM post should be advertised. After all a NM is an IT Technician first and foremost with supervisory and developmental duties.
I have been to far too many NM interviews where they overlook the technical side of the position which is about 80% of the job tbh.

Saw the salary and was thinking thats a bit high for just an IT Tech and then read the job description and it sounded more like a Senior IT Tech position stroke possible NM then just a pure NM position.
Esp considering it states essential for Exchange and other things ie VLAN's etc

3rd October 2011, 05:24 PM #12 "managing staff" essential for an "IT Tech" is slightly strange
Looks like they just want to save some money by not having a "NM"

Agree, but one would be naiive to believe that this doesn't happen. In this case who knows whether the job has been changed or not, other than the school. All I know is that the Network Manager was made redundant and that this post has arisen not long after.
