I sent an email to the address on the (rather limited) website but it bounced back saying The recipient's e-mail address was not found in the recipient's e-mail system. The only way to apply is via the Jobsite agency who request a CV despite the ad saying that CVs are not acceptable.

All seems a bit of a shambles really IMO.

Chartered IT Professional is a status awarded by BCS (more info at Chartered IT Professional (CITP) | Become Chartered | Membership and Networking | BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT)
You also have the itSMF and SocITM.
What I think some folk are pointing towards is an IT Support in Education body ... the closest we have of which is growing via FITS and the FITS Foundation.
I do think the CITP is a good step forward but it does not have anywhere the take up required by employers or IT people to really have an impact yet.

Has any one enquired about this job?

Is the salary correct or is it a typo?
It won't be a typo, it is very rare to list the wrong Salary on a job advert.

Join us for a debate exploring IT as much more than a supporting discipline but as a core business enabler and fully-fledged profession.

With expressions of IT professionalism varying across the industry, standardisation of expertise and qualifications is often discussed with great excitement. What distinguishes an IT professional from an IT worker? Does holding a CITP, MCSE or CCNA show an individual’s commitment to professionalism? Are accounting, medical or legal professionals easier to identify than IT professionals? Is it simply that IT as a profession is too new to be recognised by society at large?

We will be debating such and related issues with leading IT industry practitioners; Warwick Goodall (Director at Deloitte), Dave Benson-Hill (Assistant Director at the Cabinet Office), Adam Thilthorpe (Director for professionalism at BCS – The Chartered Institute for IT) and fellow members.

With presentations from the panellists, an audience driven Q and A session, ample network opportunities and refreshments this promises to be an exciting evening.

    Date: 30 Sep 2010
    Time: 18:00 – 20:30
    Venue: BCS, London Office
    Cost: Free, registration required

However considering that the CITP was only introduced in 2004, it is still in it's infancy (considering that the BCS only received Royal Chartered in 1984 and the Engineering Institute received it's Royal Chartered in 1965). The CITP has a long way to go.

IMO, Chartered/Registered Statuses, Yes. You're assessed at working at certain level. Whereas the MCSE, CCNA, etc... (In theory) only shows your competence with technology. And even that gets reduced by braindumpers and organisations that advertise/put thru in experienced people thru the higher level professional certifications without the experience.
