This is an excellent opportunity in a large and well funded Independent school unbelievable benefits package too

My large independent school client in North London requires an ICT engineer with experience of Secondary school networks to a sys admin/network manager degree, demonstrable experience of leading from the front in improving ICT response, effecting improvements in education delivery with the increases use of ICT. You will have the support of the ICT strategic manager on server and support them on strategic/project matters but be responsible for the day to day running of the service especially with 2nd line software and hardware issues including support of SIMS, Moodle, blackberry server, fibre, switches and the telephones.

1st round Interviews to take place on 1st October, schools experience is essential and contract to start 19th October.

well if it makes anyone feel any better, think of it as a perm job with a 6 month probation

the daily rate during this 6 months is negotiable so could be an opportunity to earn a higher rate to make up for the perceived insecurity

role is a permanent job but the school need a 6 month period to make sure they definitely get the right person for the job before the extensive benefits package kicks in like up to 10% pension, free gourmet meals, life cover, death in service, state of the art gym on site (£10 per month), good holidays

Most jobs have a probation period, I had one of three months in my current job during that time they can just get rid of you, in fact you really have very little in the way of rights up to one year.

Yes I know there are probation periods within a job but on a perm basis, temp to perm is different.

I know people who were told their job would go permanent after so long but started as temp and they never got the job. They were not rubbish, the company kept getting different people to do the job temp>Perm and never actually hired anyone full time.

I don't even consider "temp" jobs and i would not like to pay a mortgage on a "contract" job either. Too much uncertainty.

    contracting

well conversly I'm just going to go and meet a sims contractor of mine who;s been working for me on contract for 6 years!! (multiple locations of course) and has probably earnt twice as much as his permanent counterpart every year, and i try not to let him rest too much ;-)

I guess it depends on what skills you know, how in need they are and how flexible you would be to working in different locations, its not for everyone

Then why not call it a perm contract with 6 months probation. I agree with the above temp to perm, starts ringing alarm bells but probation period seems nicer somehow.

    holidatys

I think it starts at 25, the school terms are much shorter than state sector so the summer holidays are usually 2 months long, although the it team are still there, its a queiter time or great for doing big projects if thats whats in the plan

I would be interested in this ROLE only if the school does it on a perm basis
