I graduated in May 2009 and it took me a good three months before I found IT work. In the end it was my experience in a school on my placement year that helped get me the job.
I think as others have said experience is key right now the more you have the more chances you have to find a job. While having a degree is better in the long term most employers will not look at you unless you have some experience. This might come as a bit of a shock but sadly it is how things are working right now.
Keep you chin up and take the Cisco exam. I am working towards my MCSE which together with my work experience will help in the long term.
