Job Title: ICT Support Officer
Salary: £27,000 to £33,368 per annum
Location(s): Hertfordshire
Job Type: Permanent
Job Description: This position provides IT support to a specific site, working in partnership with the ITC Manager to ensure that the ITC environment is as effective and efficient as is possible.
Duties include:
- Responsible for coordinating and implementation of computerised information system within general guidelines
- Report key performance indicators as required by the CIO in a timely manner
- Ensure any new servers, software outside the established SOE, or changes to current IT systems are approved for installation
- Consult with, advise and assist in design and training of general staff on the implementation of new procedures as required by business development or changes to the business environment
- Ensure all IT requirements for admin staff are met, involving maintenance of the network server, standard operating environment [SOE], applying patches, email facility, internet connections, routers, etc.
- Ensure staff network is secure, virus-free and available for appropriately authorised individuals
- Maintenance of the shared network drives including folder structure and purging old documents on a regular basis
- Ensure regular backups and current disaster recovery processes are in place and checked
- Manage the help desk support system in regards to maintaining user accounts, projects and KPI reporting
- Be involved in the testing of upgrades to systems and services either developed in house, or supplied by third party vendors, prior to deployment
- Assist in documenting and developing test environments and results and printing result reports from within the test recording environment
Skills required are:
- Educated to undergraduate degree level, preferably with a degree in IT
- Experience in IT support in a Windows 2003 and XP environment
- Experience in managing and installing Windows servers and Active Directory
- Experience in managing and installing Windows Exchange Server
- Some network management skills including security of the TCP/IP protocol and knowledge of collaboration and sharing protocols and products
- Knowledge in MSSQL Server and some SQL query experience
- Website management experience
- LAN/WAN, TCP/IP knowledge
- Some CISCO qualifications, ie CCNA, CCNP, CCSP, CCVP, CCIP In addition experience of working in an educational environment would be a distinct advantage, as would some HTML and/or JavaScript skills and a working knowledge of LINUX, PHP
Desired personal traits include:
- Able to research problems online or through colleagues to arrive at a timely solution
- A desire to improve systems and security to best practise levels without adversely affecting the overall user experience
- Ability to understand that individual business problems may benefit from a group solution
- Balancing optimal system set up with end-user ease of use. Assessing risk versus operability
- Able to communicate with all levels of staff. The use of "plain language"
- Ability to communicate with staff from a diverse range of cultural and educational backgrounds
- Proven ability to work as part of a team
- A "can do" mentality
- Customer focussed
- Able to prioritise duties and seek clarification and guidance from Manager when faced with competing priorities
