Hello again folks!
Good chance we have a couple of jobs coming up in SmoothWall's Leeds office.
Not much detail as yet - pretty sketchy i'm afraid. But if you are interested, please get in touch - we are looking for a wide variety of skills!
First up - we are looking for another Windows Sysadmin... well, mainly windows, as our last Windows sysadmin decided to learn about VMWare and linux (he's still about... don't worry) so you will need to have at the very least an interest in that area. Chances are you'll get to do some interesting "non sysadmin" stuff in and among too. Its that kind of office
Secondly, we are adding to the blocklist team. The main qualification here is a good interest in web technology and how web apps like facebook etc. work. We'll be looking for someone who has a basic grasp of scripting languages, but there's a wealth of perl knowledge here to be passed on
Strong languages skills are also a bonus here - if you have a european language under your belt, thats a big plus. The job will mainly involve using our existing techniques (url and content filtering) to find and categorise sites, and also test for over/under blocking. There'll also be some research component - we encourage folk to go hunting new and better methods.
Both these roles will be joining an existing team at Leeds. I'll post more details when I can, but I am posting here early as i'm always keen to poach someone from here - because you're such a bunch of talented individuals!!!
Tom

23rd July 2009, 01:07 PM #3 Dan - we honestly don't know. Depends how good y'are
We believe we pay a fair rate - if the right person strolls along, we will look at what it would take to prise them from wherever they are now! Sysadmin job is "technician" rather than NM level. Though I believe we would offer a better rate than the equivalent post. Blocklist team.. well, it is really variable, we need more bodies.. but we would consider taking on someone pretty junior or someone who has a wider skillset.
you vaguely interested in either post?
