15th June 2009, 10:53 AM #17 We charge our technicians out at aroung £28 per hour for the day to day stuff, and for things like project management or large server installs its around £35 an hour.
If you are going to be self employed then these are the sort of rates you should be looking at - you have to factor in the extra time it takes to sort out your tax, invoicing etc.
If they are actually going to employ you, then should be a fair bit less, as this comes with a range of benefits.

15th June 2009, 11:03 AM #18 Depends on the reasons you want to do it, for just financial reasons or because you want to make a difference to the primaries by bringing your experience into their environment.
Considering you don't have the financial backing of a company I wouldn't charge too highly, you offer them no guarantees for your work, you balls up.....what then?
Give me a ring if you need any advice

However I do have a bit of a sliding social scale, TA's get me cheaper, Head is £30. It also depends on what the job is - I figure as long as I undercut PC World and give a far more honest and friendly service I'll get work all the time!
PC World charge
£30 for software reinstall (including windows install)
£30 per hardware install
£70 fixed price repair
£30 for backup services
£15 for memory upgrade and test
Per hours never worked for me, I usually just say £30 quid for most things. Although never done anything but private individuals and not for a long time!

Haha unless your name is a certain someone beginning with D and then you charge £70 for a PSU install because he was replacing a "faulty PSU" so its a fixed price repair -.- and then charges the next person £30 because its an upgrade!
