    Temp jobs in School

Anyone noticed these temporary jobs appearing in schools? Some through agencies.

Is it me, but are these the jobs that people get let go from because of the BSF and outsourcing?

I'm not quite up to speed. Are they worth applying for, or are they going to let you go soon after as well.

    Okay. I did think that.

Anyone got any first hand experience of this? As to be honest I don't fancy one of these jobs, got put forward for an interview for one next week?

All promisies of a contract with a view to stay, but I did have my doubts.

In the current job market, if you are currently not in a permanent post, I'd go for it. It is temporary, but at least you are earning money and gaining experience, while you look for a permanent job.

Temporary posts may become permanent if the credit crunch starts to ease and if the post is a 'mare, you don't have to renew your contract at the end of the term...

    It works both ways!

    temp jobs

To be fair there are many reasons why a school may take on temp, long term sick, cover a secondment post, approaching bsf and the old staff have moved on and even maternity!

As special Agent has grown its established clients have seen the value in getting schools experienced temps in times of great change or expansion of networks etc

If you are not working then absolutely take the temp role if it looks in line with your career to date, but take it for what it is, keep out of the day to day politics and deliver what you are required to do, you can always look for other perm work (and its much easier to get a job if you are currently employed) and in my experience about 60-80% of temp jobs extend and/or go perm long term

Its also a great way for employers to "try before you buy"

We have been approached by agencies looking to send us technical staff on a "temp to perm" basis. I assumed that this was partly due to the uncertainty of education budgets given the state of the economy and the prevailing political wind direction.
