Went for my first interview for an IT tech position at a School yesterday! Think it went reasonably well. Really hope i get it the atmosphere there was really great
Was against 4 other people.
This waiting part is the bit thats killing me i had a pretty good feeling afterwards but its just the suspense of having to wait a few days to hear the outcome.

19th May 2009, 09:10 AM #7 Hmmm they said by the end of the week which i presume would have been last Friday as the interview was on Wednesday but they said everyone would get a call! Not sure if this is a good or a bad thing do Schools usually take a while to come back to you? I presume they have to do reference and CRB checks before hand.

19th May 2009, 09:12 AM #8 This will more than likely be done if you get the job because they need information from you and a copy of your passport or something, if I remember correctly.

Sometimes they have to do the checks beforehand, other times not. I've usually had checks done after being accepted and offered the job.
If they said they'd call by the end of the week its worth giving them a call and checking up. I usually do this once a day after the date which they've said has passed. Any more and you start to seem desperate, any less and you seem uncaring and indifferent (plus they might still be thinking and forget about you, a phone call to check on progress is a good way to remind them).

Both the interviews I've had at schools they've rang me back the same day. I imagine every school is different though.

It's unlikely they will do the CRB until they offer you the post as it requires a lot of stuff from you. It also costs them. They will, however, have taken up refs I would imagine although here we tend to do that before the interview for all shortlisted candidates.
If they do offer the post it will then be subject to a satisfactory CRB.

Unless you're phoning up hourly demanding the job, I doubt that's likely.
Its always worth phoning every now and then to check on progress with a job, since many employers 'forget' to let people know when they haven't got it, or more importantly delay phoning people to let them know that they have got it.
If you phone and they then say that they're waiting on someone to make a decision, which should be done by Friday (as a random example) then phone on Friday. If they don't say you haven't got it, and don't give you a specific time to expect to find out, phone the next day.
I actually got one job because I phoned regularly, since it meant that out of the three choices they were trying to decide between I was the 'keenest'.

19th May 2009, 10:05 AM #14 Well i just phoned them. Turns out i didn't get it. They had sent something in the post to the affect and i just hadn't recieved it yet. Bit of a downer really was a really nice place.

Bad luck, but at least now you know and can concentrate on the next one without being kept in suspense.
Best of luck.
