i think that's important isn't it ? being able to judge your own worth to an organisation. If you've got the experience, technical skills, and are comfortable enough in your existing position, to not worry about not getting an offer......then in my mind it would make sense to play hard ball on salary.

Yes, maybe but in his case he doesn't have very much experience so I don't think he has a lot to bargain with re salary
