Great news AXE- lets hope you impress them! :-)
Been following your story on EduGeek Axe and that's great news, sincerely hope this leads to a permanent position for you so you can finally put all that grief behind you. Congats!
Taken a while, but I have now read through this entire thread since it's probably one of the most active threads i've seen over a long period of time!
Best of news and luck Axe, how it all works out for you.
Shame you live on the other side of the country, there have been some opportunities in this area over the last 6-8 months.
I am 25, a technician with no bits of paper, but had better luck with work. I have managed employment for the last 4-5 years now, and the last spate i had of unemployment only lasted a matter of weeks thankfully.
Now that you are in work, or any time you gain a new qualification, award, or experience, update your cv with it on sites like Monster. I update my CV every now and then, and EVERY time I do, I get a few job offers. The last one, though it wouldn't suit you due to requirement of a car, sounds from witches comments would be perfect for you (working as multi site primary support engineer).
In the last 4 years, I've applied to maybe 20 or so jobs, and i've had 6 interviews, and 4 further phone interviews. Of those, I've turned down 3 of the phone ones, turned down one of the interview ones, and accepted one of them. I'm lucky to not have aspergers syndrome, but I know a fair bit about it, having a close friend with it, who has now got a job as a speech therapist, with a masters specialising in autism. Relationships with others are hard to make at first, but once made, are solid friends.
A child that used to be in my scout group with autism, did not like men, and would rarely talk to anyone. After a year of working with him, his family moved away, but on his last night, he came up, hugged me, and said "Goodbye". This may seem trivial, but meant an awful lot know the history behind him.
It seems I interview well! But I too have noticed a lack of jobs. A year or two ago I was getting up to 3 phone calls a week offering me work. Also, I rarely get offered work outside of education nowadays, and tbh, I would like to get out to private sector again. As NM for a primary school, there is no more 'UP' that I can go! Hence why I am now studying with the Open University again after a 2 year break from it.
There is a saying, and in my experience it really rings true. Any work is good work, because it is 100 times easier to get a job when you have one, than it is without one!

Yaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy @ Axe!!!
Has anyone heard how young AXE is getting on?
I was wondering that myself just today! His last post was on here so he must be busy at work...
No news must be good news!
Hope so - really really hope so?
He's dropped you all now he's got a job sorted! Joke. Hope things are working out and the job is going well.
Happy ending. The work trial turned into a job offer.
It's a long day; I get up at 5 AM and it's 3 hours travel each way so I'm pretty tired by the time I get home. I'm an ICT Technician - building and imaging workstations, replacing keys on laptops. It's a big step down from what I was doing before, but it's a CC3 network so I keep myself busy comparing how CC3 does all the things I've had to do from scratch in the past... And there's the occasional software or database problem for me to solve.
I'm just so happy to be working again.
Thank you everyone, I'd have never got this far without you.

@AXE; I'm am SO pleased for you. This is the best news I've had all year, I think! Well done!
Congratulations and good luck with your new job. Now that you've got your foot back on the employment ladder who knows what opportunities will open up for you in the future?!
